Former Cyber-Security Czar Says Network Perimeter Defenses Don’t Work

eWeek | Apr 6, 2015

Clarke, who is now CEO of Good Harbor Security Risk Management, spoke at the dinner at the invitation of RedSeal, a risk management software company, which was announcing a new round of funding. He said that there are several steps that a company usually takes once the management accepts that hackers will find their way into the company network.

Slack Hacked

eSecurity Planet | Mar 30, 2015

Steve Hultquist, chief evangelist at RedSeal, said by email that the Slack breach clearly demonstrates that organizations need to use automation to improve security. “They must use a system to ensure that all of their security zones are correctly configured, that there are no ways around the security controls, and that all possible paths are monitored for unexpected activity — not just those that are used when everything is operating as expected,” he said.

Secrecy on the Set: Hollywood Embraces Digital Security

The New York Times | Mar 29, 2015

Some Hollywood studios are removing their movie editing software from the Internet so hackers cannot get to it, said Ray Rothrock, the chief executive of RedSeal, a security start-up. For years, oil companies have been doing something similar with their pipelines — a process known as “air-gapping”— so that if hackers breach their internal network, they can’t use that access to blow up a pipeline. Now, Mr. Rothrock said, Hollywood is doing the same to combat theft.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 23, 2015 — RedSeal (redseal.co), the cybersecurity certification company, has been named to the JMP Securities Fast 50 list of hottest privately held security and networking companies. The list recognizes innovators that have the capability to dominate their respective markets.

“We’re honored to be recognized by JMP Securities for our powerful security analytics technology that is helping organizations certify their evolving networks are secure,” said RedSeal Chairman and CEO Ray Rothrock. “As networks themselves increasingly become targets, we believe that identifying and prioritizing network security issues based on potential risk is the most critical component of any defense strategy. Our customers are able to use their scarce resources to address their most critical issues first and accelerate and improve incident response.”

RedSeal’s platform enhances existing security investments by making sense of the overwhelming number of instructions that define how a particular network operates. It creates a functioning network model and tests it, prioritizing security issues and providing detailed remediation information. In addition to reducing cyber risk, RedSeal’s platform accelerates regulatory compliance initiatives—including PCI, NERC CIP and NIST—by automatically and continuously verifying alignment. The solution is designed to work with thousands of devices on complex networks, and more than 200 organizations worldwide currently rely on it to maintain the highest level of security.

Cheat Sheet: What Bankers Need to Know About the $1B Carbanak Heist

American Banker | Mar 17, 2015

“These thefts are a significant evolution in approach, since the attackers didn’t simply break in, take over accounts, and run with the money,” said Mike Lloyd, the chief technology officer at security analytics company RedSeal. “The time invested by criminals in studying the operations of target banks shows two things: first, that such attacks are lucrative enough for this time commitment to be worthwhile, and second, they would not have bothered if they did not have to.”

REDSEAL TO PRESENT AT THE MONTGOMERY SUMMIT IN SANTA MONICA, CA

Chairman and CEO Ray Rothrock invited to present RedSeal to top executives and senior-level investors on topic of cyber defense

From The Montgomery Summit, Santa Monica, CA…
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 9, 2015 — RedSeal (redseal.co), the network security certification company, today announced that Chairman and CEO Ray Rothrock will present at The Montgomery Summit 2015 at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, CA on March 11, 2015. Mr. Rothrock will address how organizations can more effectively defend against cyberattacks.

“Given the crucial role of the information technology (IT) network in virtually all business operations, cybersecurity has become a vital issue,” Mr. Rothrock stressed. “Every day, we see how government and corporate customers throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, are challenged with network complexity. It goes beyond their ability to see what can happen, or even what is already happening. They need intelligence that lets them know how to prevent and react to the many threats, and to keep them in compliance with regulatory requirements. The best defensive strategy includes knowing every possible attack path to the most valuable network assets, so an enterprise can certify that its network is secure. That’s the approach RedSeal consistently advocates and the reason I’m presenting at this week’s Montgomery Summit.”

Building on the 10-year legacy of The Montgomery Conference, this year’s event, presented by Macquarie Capital, gathers leading executives from growth companies, entrepreneurs, global investment professionals and corporate development executives, to discover the most important innovations in business and technology. RedSeal provides a cybersecurity analytics platform that—unlike any other solution on the market—certifies that your network is secure.
